Farewell, Supertramp! The pilgrimage is gone. And maybe it was time. Because of the number of lives, it took of people seeking some adventure. It was getting tough for the rescue teams every time someone was trying to explore the wilderness and fell into the traps of misjudgment and lost their way, from home, from life. May all of them rest in peace. I do see people saying it is good riddance, calling Chris by names, just because he thought differently. I also see people stating that the book by Jon Krakauer and the movie made people hike the trail like a bunch of stupid hippies. Well, maybe some went there follow the ‘trend’ and maybe some went there to find themselves, and some, just for the sake of adventure. Call them names, make fun of them, but you cannot deny the will of human beings to seek their own truth and their courage to think differently. Call Chris a coward, for he abandoned the chance of being a hot-shot lawyer and gave up the life of many people’s dreams. But you cannot discredit the fact that it takes guts to give all this up. All this facade of a happy life! Say whatever you want to, but the fact remains true that Chris’s story still inspires people from all over the world; from the exact opposite hemisphere, maybe in a metropolitan city of India. People, who were on the verge of losing their minds found a way, found a goal for their life, found a dream, a will to continue in this make-believe godforsaken society of ours. People, who’ll still someday complete the hike of the Stampede Trail, with all the necessary precautions and following the guidelines, obviously; and reach the spot where the Magic Bus 142 stood once and bow down in respect. And maybe they’ll ask the same question to the chilly winds of the Alaskan wilderness, “Is there anybody here?” And maybe, just maybe, the wild will answer, “Guess not!” Photo Courtesy: CNN Travel
